Take a moment to check out a local and national favorite, Mindful Music Moments, a program known for marrying mindfulness and classical music for daily listening in schools in partnership with world-class symphonies, operas, and new music presenters.
Stacy Sims’ is the founder of Mindful Music Moments as well as the founder of City Silence and True Body Project. Her journey started in 2005 while working in youth wellness where she originally noticed how many students suffer from toxic stress, even at young ages. She successfully piloted Mindful Music Moments in 2016 with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of World Languages. It now reaches more than 22,000 students in over 75 K-12 schools nationwide.
Mindful Music Moments provides the schools with 180 days of content to be used with students for four minutes at the start of each day to slow down, pause, and reflect on their current state and to release any outside stresses they might have. The hope is to offer proof for why mindfulness and meditation are vitally important for fulfilling, productive, and healthy lives. With the increasing number of students reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression at young ages, giving them the simple resources for soothing their own anxieties and better managing their emotions has become more and more important, Sims believes. This ultimately helps them to devote more attention to learning at school.
Moving forward, Sims is working on creating and launching a Mindful Music Moments program tailored to preschool students. Additionally, plans with Cleveland Orchestra are in the works, with goals of scaling the programming and funding it for all the city’s public schools.
